The future of Photonics AR-VR
In the article "The Past, Present, and Future of Virtual and Augmented Reality Research: A Network and Cluster Analysis of the Literature" published November 2018 (https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2018.02086) the authors conclude "The future of VR and AR is becoming more technological than before, and each day, new solutions and products are coming to the market…..The gap between the past and the future of AR and VR research is about the "realism" that was the key aspect in the past versus the "interaction" that is the key aspect now." Here is where photonics is playing a key role.
Published in July 2020 by The Business Research Company, "Augmented Reality Services Global Market Report 2020-30: Covid 19 Growth and Change" is stating that "The global augmented reality services market is expected to decline from $50 billion in 2019 to $48.96 billion in 2020 at a growth rate of -2.08%" due to COVID, but "The market is then expected to recover and reach $148.72 billion in 2023 at a CAGR of 44.8%."
In an article by Martin Herding published on September 25,2020 titled "Augmented Reality Disappeared From Gartner's Hype Cycle - What's Next?" he is looking at the "Gartner Hype Cycle" which is "a methodology used by executives to navigate this fast-moving innovation world. It signals upcoming technology hypes and indicates their maturity, helping leaders assess risks and early adoption benefits."
"According to Gartner, augmented reality has matured so rapidly that it is no longer considered an "emerging technology" anymore."
"Gartner's latest report, predicts that multi-experience platforms, including augmented reality, will be deployed at least in one-third of all enterprises by 2021."
