Photonics- AI in the digitalization process and digital transformation

Artificial intelligence (AI)is currently a hot topic.It is part of the solution to some of the current social problems, activities that require automation or flexibility.

As defined by Gartner, Artificial intelligence (AI) applies advanced analysis and logic-based techniques, including machine learning, to interpret events, support and automate decisions, and take actions

"Artificial intelligenceand the need to connect through sensors and communication links many of which depend on Photonics", is how Photonics is currently enabling and supporting AI.

The possibility of being at the heart of AI with the development of the first quantum computer (Photonics computer) mind-blowing.

Optical sensors can be cameras or other type of optical detectors, through which it is interpreting the environment. The sensors can be on board or remote and if remote, the information might need to be transported in the optical domain through an uplink before the processing can take place in the digital world.

There are several Canadian photonics companies that supply Cameras and optical sensors who are currently enabling the Canadian Digitalization process on the road to the digital transformation of the society and a lot of research in quantum computing is taking place in Canadian Universities. This could putphotonics at the heart of AI.
